The paralyzing truth of fear! And how to use it to your advantage!
Fear sucks, It stops us in our tracks and simultaneously it can trick you into feeling like you are moving.
But the reality of it is that FEAR holds us back:
> from exploring new relationship
> taking opportunities
> making educated thoughtful decisions.
> saying no when we should be saying YES (and vice a versa)
> it overshadows the love you deserve in this beautiful creative world.
I am not here to give a fear lecture! (OK maybe a little one!)
But there are so many books, articles, quotes, TedTALKS and seminars out there on fear! And I am probably not telling you anything you don’t already know or have felt – probably just yesterday!
I see the different side effects fear has on me now that I am conscientiously using it to my advantage verses the effects of fear that weighed me down stopping me from any movement. (yep, paralyzing)
Now I am human here and I still get lost in a rabbit hole of fearful thoughts. Here’s the thing: fear is always going to be there. ALWAYS! And when those fears come up then that is exactly when you need to become motivated!
Awareness is key!
Those people that appear to be floating through life. I think they have learned how to effectively use fear to keep them moving, making better decisions!
Bottom line, your FEARFUL THOUGHT is just an item on the list of the cons when trying to understand the pros and cons. These could be disguised as an excuse, or expectation, or condition you have laid out in order to feel “more comfortable” in your movement.

Fear vs. The Advantages
- Fear can put us on our defense or paralyze us but it can also cause us to grow.
- It takes away our power and holds us back from going after what it is that really lights up our world. But when we acknowledge that fear, usually it indicates that something important is about to happen (usually the thing we have been working hard to achieve). Then we can become excited that the change closer to fruition.
- It has the power to keep us from failing by keeping us from even trying. It also takes away any sense of adventure or sense of play, but there’s a chance to be happier by going for it and failing than never trying at all.
You see these are technically mind games we play with ourselves. I consider myself a master in playing them!
I see how fear:
- stops the creative flow.
- creates stress on our body’s.
- strains our ability to think.
Like I already said fear is there, it’s going to happen so why not become friends with it? Use it for the advantage of being a motivator not debilitating keeping you stagnant.
Conditions & Expectations
These are just excuses that are driven by fear. But when we use fear to motivate you can kiss those excuses goodbye. Because now you are using the advantages of fear.
The Advantages of Fear
Here are some tips on how to use fear to motivate you.
1: Identifying what motivates you to keep you focused. List out what motivates you toward making the change you wish. Then when fear creeps in pull, that list out and focus on the more important ideas that inspired you in the first place!
2: Give yourself and your fears a space to breathe! Allowing them to bubble up and acknowledge them might be super scary but they will pass, especially if you acknowledge that you have the fear. Then take it a step further and seek the reason these fears are coming up. Refer back to your motivating list or think about what really could happen it you did fall flat. Is the worst really the worst? Giving time to let the fear bubble up and breathe for a minute. Step back and reflect on the bigger picture, both what’s the worst that can happen and the points of motivation. Then watch your fears fade away and you will be able to move again.
3: The most important trick for me is to acknowledge progress. Check in with what you have accomplished. Give value to where you were and were you are now. You might be surprised that fear is finally showing up. And depending on where you are in the process, the fear could really mean that everything is about to come into full on fruition. Everything you have been working for is about it show it’s accomplishments and you, my friend, will have arrived to your goals you been working for. Even if you feel like you are still so far away.
This brings me to dig a little deeper for my readers here. There are many advantages of fear and enlightenment could come from fear. Questioning your ability to move forward or if you and your craft or services will be received can motivate you to think about something differently or approach the process differently. Then you are opening up and giving way to the eureka moment that could provide the answers you are seeking to take you to the next level and erase the fears completely. This my friends was a huge realization for me at a turning point in my professional career. I think back and realize the moment I gave fear all credit for motivating me to accomplish my biggest dream so far, the Thriv Community!
The fear can be thick! But we are divinely made and we have thick skin. My hope for you is that you realize how you can use your fear to grow, invite change, motivation and achieve your goals.
